Hanoi sits at the confluence of two rivers: The Sông Hồng, which flows from the Northwest, and the Sông Duồng, which runs east before breaking up into smaller tributaries and emptying out into the sea near Haiphong. These two waterways are a major source of industry and transportation, linking Hanoi to other areas of importance in the region. This series is a story documenting the changing lives of the people who have lived between these two waterways for generations. Even as Hanoi has expanded far out into the agricultural areas, and the young people move into the city for work and education, North Vietnam still holds tightly to traditional values and family structures.
